The world is becoming one huge market, and Gyeonggi local government is taking a leading role in this age of cultural, scientific, and technological development. At the forefront of this world trend, Gyeonggi Province is determined to develop as the center of knowledge-based industry in Korea in order to become a leader in the Northeast Asian economy.
Perceiving this world stream,Gyeonggi Province is determined to develop as the key point of knowledge-based industry in Korea in order to become a leader in the Northeast Asian economy.
It is also planning to elevate its status as the home of world-renowned culture and tourism to an even higher level through the numerous cultural assets and tourism resources that come from 1,000 years of history as the capital of the Korean peninsula.
Its northern area, which will be the center of recently initiated exchanges between North and South Korea, is developing as a strongpoint in preparation for Korea's unification. At the same time, the west coast area of Gyeonggi Province is increasing in prominence as the core of Northeast Asia's logistics and is taking its place at the heart of the new economy through the full-scale development of Pyeongtaek Harbor.

Pyeongtaek Harbor is located in southwest Gyeonggi Province and provides the shortest route to China. For this reason, it is one of three Korean harbors being developed strategically by the central government. Full-scale development is in progress, including the opening of a regular container vessel shipping lane to China. With designation as a tariff-free zone and the infusion of outside capital, the future of the harbor as a trading center and base of logistics in Asia couldn't be brighter.

Following in the footsteps of Germany, Gyeonggi Province has enacted laws to support the area bordering North and South Korea in preparation for unification. Its current project is the restoration of the Gyeongui Railway and the Gyeongwon Railway, ultimately to be connected to the Trans-Siberia railroad and the Trans-China railroad. With these preparatory projects accomplished, the northern Gyeonggi area will be revitalized as the historic venue for North-South exchanges and will also play a critical role in Asia's economy by linking the Far East with Europe.
