On February 20, Swiss-Korean Association President Jean-Jacques Joss visited Camp Greaves in Paju, the sole restored US military base within the Civilian Control Line.

According to Gyeonggi Province, Joss visited the camp to discuss measures for expanding international cooperation between the province and the Swiss Delegation of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC).

Joss is currently serving as Chief of the Swiss Reserve Force and known as a DMZ expert with five-years of experience leading the NNSC Switzerland delegation in the DMZ on the Korean Peninsula from 2007 to 2012.

Gyeonggi Province plans to strengthen its cooperation system with Switzerland, and seeks to establish and expand a year-by-year cooperation plan through this discussion.

Of particular note, Switzerland, world-renowned for its Alpine hiking tourism, is expected to provide valuable advice on the policy direction of Gyeonggi Province, which is currently promoting DMZ tourism in the northern area of the province primarily around the Pyeonghwa-Nuri Trail.

Gyeonggi Province DMZ Policy Division Director Im Sun-taek said, “Through cooperation between Gyeonggi Province and Switzerland, we will accelerate the sustainable development and conservation of the DMZ. The two countries will share expertise and continue discussions to expand the scope of cooperation “.
