Are you using a smartphone?

Five years ago, it seemed about half the population were using smartphones, so it was common to ask that question.

Fast forward a few years and now we’re living in an era in which it seems slightly awkward to ask whether or not someone uses a smartphone.

The number of people using smart devices has increased rapidly. Today, we can access social media whenever and wherever we want.

Now we are able to freely access social media in our homes, in the subway, at our offices, and we automatically know who is eating what with whom without bothering to contact them.

With changes occurring across the IT environment, enormous amounts of data is being created and consumed every day.

The digital footprint of such vast amounts of information has created a new record environment known as ‘Big Data’.

Approximately 30% of all businesses around the world are already using big data, and investment in this field is expected to rise exponentially.

Gyeonggi Province is also focusing on the importance of big data. Along with the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government was the first among all municipal governments in Korea to establish an ordinance pertaining to the use of big data, and it was also the first to introduce the concept of big data across all administrative fields.

Together with experts from around the world, Gyeonggi Province will seek development directions for big data governance and privacy protection at the 2015 B.I.G. Forum.

The 2015 B.I.G. Forum (B.I.G.: Big data Initiative Gyeonggi) hosted by Gyeonggi Province and Seoul National University, and supervised by the Gyeonggi Content Agency and the National Information Society Agency, will be held from October 13 to 15 at the Gyeonggi Creative Economy & Innovation Center.

Globally renowned scholars and leaders in big data including leading managerial strategy analyst Thomas Davenport will attend the forum!
