Change Up Campus to Provide Free English Education for Underprivileged Groups

The Change Up Campus of the Gyeonggi-do Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning provides a variety of English learning programs free of charge to residents in need of social care in Gyeonggi Province.

Among the main programs are: 1) the Vacation Intensive English Course to improve practical English language skills in a learning environment similar to that of overseas language training; 2) the English Camp for Military Personnel who otherwise lack access to educational opportunities; and 3) the Multicultural Family Camp to help multicultural families adapt to Korean society.

The Vacation Intensive English Course is for elementary school students in the 3rd through to 6th grades from low-income families in the province, and is offered for up to 200 participants. It is an immersive 2-week program held in the form of a camp in a safer educational environment than that of overseas training.

The English Camp for Military Personnel will be provided to a total of 400 army, navy, and air force service members in the province. Held for five days, the camp will offer English learning experiences to military personnel who lack access to educational opportunities.

The Multicultural Family Camp is geared to cultivate the social adaptability of multicultural families in the province, and is recruiting up to 200 participants.

The Change Up Campus also runs the Daily Hands-on Program, which allows a wide range of residents to easily participate in learning activities, and the Moving English Musical Theater program through which faculty members visit organizations that have difficulty visiting the Change Up Campus and offer performances fusing art and English.

This program is for organizations such as institutions and schools in Gyeonggi Province; individuals cannot apply. For further information, please contact the Gyeonggi-do Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning’s English Language Division (031-956-2113), or visit www.gchangeupcampus.or.kr.
