Gyeonggi Province is recruiting participants for the May 19 National Multicultural Speaking Contest from March 2 to April 2.

This contest was organized to celebrate Together Day (May 20) and Multicultural Week in order to promote happy homes through family understanding and communication while fostering talented individuals for the global stage.

The event will be divided into a Korean Speaking Contest for marriage immigrants and a Bilingual Speaking Contest for the children of both foreign residents and multicultural households.

Participation is limited to marriage immigrants who entered the country after January 1st, 2013, and foreign resident school children attending elementary to high school who were born between 2000 and 2012. Participants may freely choose speech topics; Korean Speaking Contest participants have 150 seconds to speak and Bilingual Speaking Contest participants have 90 seconds each for both Korean and the native tongue of their non-Korean parent.

The preliminary round takes place on April 18 at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex through the evaluation of submitted videos with the finalists announced on April 27.

Only the top 20 contestants (10 in each category) qualify for the finals with a KRW 1 million prize for 1st place, KRW 700,000 each for two 2nd place winners, KRW 500,000 each for two 3rd place winners and KRW 300,000 each for five participation award winners along with an award certificate.
