Geomdansan Mountain (657m) is a famous mountain in Hanam-si, and because it is conveniently located in the metropolitan area, hikers are constantly visiting this place.
Geomdansan Mountain was at one time a spiritual mountain protecting Hanam Wiryeseong Fortress, which used to be the capital of Hanseong Baekje with 500 years of history. ‘Geom’ means a holy and sacred object of worship and ‘Geomdan’ means holy altar. There are remains of altars here and there where early and middle Baekje king’s prayed for the prosperity and peace of the nation. Even today, the hikers perform religious ritual for mountain spirits every year. At the peak is a wide open space that is open in all directions, and the grand view of reed field which stretches out at the top of the mountain is especially excellent.
