History: Euri-Si may have been a part of the Chinese Han Dynasty, and in the three nation period Euri-Si was an important military strategic place within the Baekjae region. After southern expansion by Goguryeo, it was called Maeseong-gun, or Changhwa-Gun, but reinstated as a Baekjae region territory. In the unified Silla Dynasty, in the reign of King Gyeongdeok (year 757), it was under Raeso-Gun and in the Goryeo period King Taejo , was called Gyeonju. In the 6th year of King Taejo (1397) of the Joseon Dynasty, it was called Yangju and in the12th year of King Sejong (1430) it was elevated and called Yangjumok. In the 32nd year of King Gojeong (1895), it became Yangju-gun. Geography: Yangju is located in the center of the Korean peninsula, with rivers and streams flowing to the center of province to the Imjingang(River). The Gyeongwon railway and railways from Seoul to Cheolwon pass through Hoecheon-dong and Yangju-dong. Culture: Features tourist attractions such as Songchu in Jangheung with graceful scenery and important intangible cultural assets such as the 2nd and the 70th Yangjubyeolsandaenori and Yangjusonori and the greatest temple of Joseon Dynasty, Hweam Temple. Many other tangible and intangible cultural assets are found in the city.

Yangju Cultural Festival(early October) The festival started in 1994 to promote regional culture and reconciliation of the people.
