Supporting Growth of Children from Multicultural Families

PROJECT NAME

Support for home tutoring materials for children from multicultural families
  • Description

    · Improving the learning abilities of children from multicultural families who are experiencing difficulties in learning the Korean language by providing them with home tutoring materials

    · Hangeul and Korean language education at the levels of children from multicultural families

    · Teachers visiting children once a week with home tutoring materials (approx. 15 minutes per session)

  • Target

    · Children aged 4 to 9 from low-income multicultural families in the province (immigrated children from 1st through 6th grades)

    · Pre-school children and children in lower grades of elementary school experiencing difficulty with Korean language

    · Linguistic assessment and education for children from multicultural families

    · Twice a week (40 minutes per session), group or individual sessions (6-month service; can be extended up to 24 months)

  • Description

    · Korea adaptation program (Korean language, cultural experiences)

    · Subjects needed to prepare for Korean school life such as history, mathematics, and computing

    · Period: February to December 2018

    Immigrated children (9 to 24 years of age)

Home visit for education in childrearing and counseling for children
  • Description

    · Korean language education service (home visit twice a week, 2 hours per class, service for 10 months)

    · Parent education service (home visit twice a week, 2 hours per class, service for 5 months)

    · Life counseling for children (home visit twice a week, 2 hours per class, service for 10 months)

  • Target

    · Korean language education: marriage immigrants (less than 5 years since entry into Korea), immigrated children from multicultural families (under 24 years of age)

    · Parent education: once per stage (pregnancy, childbirth, infancy, early childhood, childhood)

    · Life counseling for children: children from multicultural families and immigrated children aged 3 to 12

    ※ Awards: Grand Prize (1 person, KRW 1 million), Second Place (2 persons, KRW 0.7 million), Third Place (2 persons, KRW 500 thousand), Runner-up (5 persons, KRW 300 thousand)

    · Marriage immigrants who entered Korea after January 1, 2013, and currently living in Korea

    · Children of foreign residents born between 2000 and 2012 and attending elementary/middle/high school
