Performances will be hosted across the province with free admission for Gyeonggi residents.

Every Wednesday and Friday from December 5 to 21 at 11:30AM, there will be Cultural Healing performances taking place at the Good Morning House (the former Gyeonggi gubernatorial residence).

The Cultural Healing show will feature performances by young artists who have been selected through competition. There will be performances by the male quintet Uangelvoice, the Korean traditional music project group Re:Um, the saxophone ensemble S.with, and more. Tickets can be purchased through the Good Morning House website or on site.

The Gyeonggi Pops Ensemble is also holding a fusion concert on December 19 at 3 PM at the Pyeongtaek West Culture & Arts Hall.
The performance will feature the Gyeonggi Pops Ensemble’s rendition of K-pop, pop, semi-classics, original movie sound tracks, musical numbers, and more.
The performance can be attended without prior registration.

Opening officially to the public on November 24, Gyeonggi Peace Plaza is located in front of the Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex in Uijeongbu City. It has a total area of 22,986 square meters, which is approximately 1.7 times larger than the Seoul Plaza (13,207 square meters).

The plaza was given the name ‘Gyeonggi Peace Plaza’ to symbolize Gyeonggi Province’s position as Korea’s starting point for peace and a leader of peace. The name was chosen after extensive consideration of options selected from among entries to a public naming contest in conjunction with preference research and surveys.

Gyeonggi Peace Plaza has been designed as a space that can be enjoyed by anyone in the province. The plaza offers amenities that include: a pavilion, recreational forest, water facilities, terrace for residents, grass plaza, performance street, and more.

Residents of Gyeonggi Province can enjoy cultural activities such as small concerts, discussion forums, seminars, and more in a multipurpose space that can also host lectures and exhibitions.

The three-day festival will be held in conjunction with the opening of the plaza from November 23 to 25 under the slogan “Let’s Head to Gyeonggi Peace Plaza.” There will be several programs at the festival for visitors.

The opening ceremony will be held on November 24 at 2pm on a stage installed for the festival. A number of dignitaries will participate in the ceremony including: Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, members of the provincial and national assemblies, mayors of 10 cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi, provincial residents of North Korean origin, North Korean defectors, US Armed Forces personnel, and representatives of the National Unification Advisory Council, adding further symbolic significance to the plaza.
 

 
The ceremony will begin with a grand parade by a military band, followed by congratulatory performances by the female singing group GFriend, Hong Jin Young, and the male idol group SF9. During the festival, there will be a Youth Fringe Festival, in which youths can showcase their passion and talents on stage, and a university culture festival, as well as an art festival for provincial residents and local artists, all of which will add to the excitement of this celebratory festival.

In addition, special cultural programs will be held during the festival including the Cultural Art Workshop, Dreaming Playground, Culture and Art Flee Market, Eurasia Photography Exhibit and more. There will also be a sales event in celebration of the opening of the Gaesong Industrial Complex, an event co-hosted by the Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province branches of the national Hanwoo Association. The Gyeonggi Turtle Family Marathon Competition, Romantic Object Photo Zone, Night Illumination and other events will also be held for the enjoyment of local residents.

A Gyeonggi Province official said, “Gyeonggi Peace Plaza is an open space for interaction and communication among provincial residents, as well as a culturally and historically significant cornerstone for the development of the northern region,” The official added, “The province anticipates enthusiastic public participation at this festival filled with diverse events.”

This exhibition features 49 artworks by domestic and international ceramic artists including Cheon Han-bong, Kim Jeong-ok, Hwang Jong-rye, Shin Cheol, Kim Do-yeong, Chuck Hindes, Hori Toshiro, Shinjo Sadatsugu, Juana Mendoza, and more.

In Part 1, earthenware and pottery from prehistoric times to the Three Kingdoms Period are displayed, allowing visitors to imagine the food and farming culture of those ancient times. In Part 2, artifacts such as rice storage vessels and rice cookers from modern times are exhibited.

Part 3 is composed of ‘Joseon Dawan Master’, Cheon Han-bong’s recreation of maksabal, which are bowls for hot soup and tea, and idodawan, which are maksabal that morphed into teacups during the Japanese colonial period. These represent the dining culture of the Joseon Dynasty. There are also artworks by Kim Jeong-ok, Hwang Jong-rye, Shin Cheol and more, who are renowned for their dawan, or teacups.
 

 
There are also special experiential programs for visitors to enjoy along with the exhibition. “Making Grains of Rice with Clay” is a program within the 2018 Icheon Rice Cultural Festival (October 17 to 21) in which visitors can make grains of rice with clay and grain molds and then paint them, making colorful grains. These works are displayed in front of the exhibition hall as a unique exhibition for visitors to enjoy.

The program takes place during the weekends, holidays and Wednesdays in conjunction with the monthly culture event. However, during the Icheon Rice Cultural Festival (October 17 to 21), the program runs every day.

2. Veritable Records of the Korean Fairy Tale
Heungbu, a gambler and a skilled Nolbu; Kongjwi, who mastered martial arts; and Chunhyang, who fell in love with District Magistrate Byeon… The “Veritable Records of the Korean Fairy Tale,” an autumn festival hosted by the Korean Folk Village, presents unique re-interpretations of four Korean folk tales to give audiences fun and novel experiences.

3. Mongttang Grill Festival
The visitors can find chestnuts, sweet potatoes, napa cabbage, white radishes, catfish, eels, and jjondeugi (a chewy snack) and many other delights through hands-on collecting and hunting programs and grill them over firewood or charcoal, enjoying each in its own special way! Yum!

Herb Island, with lavender blossoms blooming in June, is a popular destination with an exotic mood in the capital region.
