Many old Buddhist temples in Korea are revered for their architecture as well as historic monumentsrelics, but are often vulnerable to fire or theft. In order to protect these cultural assets, Gyeonggi Province began installing anti-theftfire alarm tems in a number of major Buddhist temples in the province.

This 15th century mountain temple in Namyangju (남양주) Cityhome to Korean National Treasure No. 259, the relics found in the base stones of its pagodas.
2) 13 CCTV Cameras Installed at Temple
Gyeonggi Province installed anti-theft tems at this temple including 13 CCTV cameras, which are monitored in the temple’s office,an anti-theft alarm tem.

4) 11 More Temples Slated for Protection System Installation
The provincial government will install alarm tems at 11 other historically significant temples in the province.

“We will install fire alarmsanti-theft tems in major Buddhist temples to protect thempossible disasters.”
The total cost of the alarm tems will amount to KRW 2.7 billion, of which 80% will be paidthe centrallocal governments the remaining 20% will be bornethe temples.

As part of its efforts to a better social environment for childbirth, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government has been implementing policies to improve the treatment of nursery teachers.
4) KRW 410,000 Additional Allowance Paid to Nursery Teachers
Since last March, the provincial government has been paying teachers at children’s homes an extra KRW 410,000 as a treatment-improvement allowance. This allowance, whichdouble the previous allowance, raised the salary of children’s home teachers to a level equivalent to that of average kindergarten teachers.
Gyeonggi Province will continue to implement policiesprojects for the improvement of childcare service quality, including the expansion of public children’s homes.

Industrial complexes in Gyeonggi Province are undergoing image transformations through the efforts of the provincial governmentresident companies.

This fabric company in the Shihwa (시화) Industrial Complex has installed a dust-collection tem to prevent foul odorshazardous dustspreading into the surrounding area.
2) Civil Complaints over Foul Odors Greatly Reduced
The number of complaints over foul ordersfactories in the Shihwa Industrial Complex has been reduced dramaticallymore than 1,500 per year ten years ago to only 200. The streets in the complexes also are much cleaner.

Cleaning workunderway at this industrial complex. Officials of Gyeonggi Provinceworkers of resident companies designated the second Friday of every month as ‘Trash Picking Day’join together to remove trash. Less than 30 minutes after they started working, two trucks were completely filled with trash.

“It was so dirty in here in the complex that I felt ashamed. Working together with Gyeonggi officials today must have been a good experience for the employees in changing their perceptions.”
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government plans to implement environment improvement programs such as this atof the industrial complexes in the province. New programs will include environmental assessmentsthe provision of incentives.

A self-sufficiency fair was held at the Yongin (용인) City Sports Stadium. This event was organizedGyeonggi Provincethe Gyeonggi Province Self-sufficiency Center Association to promote morale among the participants of self-sufficiency programs.

More than 3,000 participants in programs operatedregional self-sufficiency centers in the province gathered together for this annual event. There are 32 regional self-sufficiency project operators in Gyeonggi Province,over 3,000 economically underprivileged individuals work in various projects.

Five months ago, Gyeonggi Province introduced the Visiting Employment Service Bus,the results to date have been deemed a big success. This bus has been circulating through the 31 citiescounties of the province seven days a week.

Chae Jin-seon (채진선) of Goyang (고양) City quit her job after getting married, but once again sought employment. Having failed in a number of applications, she felt frustrated…until she heard about the employment service bus. Through the employment service bus, she participated in a job interviewwas able to secure employment.

3) Bus Secures Employment for 289 Individuals
Over the past five months, this bus successfully helped 289 job searchers find employment, marking a 37% success rate, whicha remarkable achievement relative to other employment services. Such a high success rate was the result of dynamic connections between recruitersapplicants.

“As of July this year, there were 180,000 unemployed individuals in Gyeonggi Province, of which 83,000 were youths. Many of them couldfind employment simply because they werefortunate enough to be foundrecruiters who wanted them. Thiswhere the employment service bus steps inserves as a matchmaker.”
The Employment Service Bus will continue to visitcorners of the province to help recruitersjob searchers find each other.

Title 7. Horseback Healing Center Opens in Shiheung City (0921-2)

Gyeonggi Provincethe Korea Racing Authority jointly opened the Horseback Healing Center to publically promote horseback riding as a sportas a means of therapy.

In this unusual healing center, a group of youths are riding model horses. It may seem as they are doing it for enjoyment, but in fact, they are receiving treatment. These model horses are used for physicalemotional therapy as well as for preliminary training before riding real horses.

Horseback healing as a therapeutic program aims to achieve emotional stabilityphysical health through emotionalphysical interaction with a simulated horse. At this center, patients can take this therapy in combination with languagedrawing therapies.

“We have a solution team that designs customized programs for individual youths in combination with language or drawing therapy, necessary, so as to help them resolve their issues.”
6) Social Contribution Project Agreement between Gyeonggi ProvinceKorea Racing Authority (September 19th)
Opened as a social contribution project, the riding fee at this centeronly KRW 30,000, 75% less than other equestrian centers.
