Gyeonggi-do’s emergency medical aid project in Iraq, which is a cooperative work of nongovernmental organizations such as Global Care, Gyeonggi-do Hospital Association, Medical Association, Association of Korean Oriental Medicine, Pharmaceutical Association and Nurses Association, has attained great results of treating over 10 thousand refugees, promoting Korea and Iraq friendship and also extending interchange between the two countries.

The medical team is made up of Gyeonggi-do public service workers and nongovernmental organizations which are medically experienced inside and outside of the country. This team has unfolded medical activities for 3 months, from April 21 to July 26 this year and is currently carrying out preventive measures against epidemics and providing medical equipment and medicine in Iraq.

The team is organized in 5 groups which take turns alternately. Team members include 26 doctors, 4 oriental medicine doctors, 5 pharmacists and 28 nurses, which totals up to 110 medical supporters. The 5 groups are formed by 20 people each in the 1st and 2nd group, 22 each in the 3rd and 4th and 26 in the last 5th group.

Among the 110 medical team workers, 69 are dispatched from the Global Care (63%) and 41 are from the Gyeonggi-do province (37%). Medical workers were collected flawlessly by the positive understanding and support from medical associations with Gyeonggi-do.

The emergency medical team has reached the Iraqi people first and made an opportunity to awaken them of Korea and Gyeonggi-do. This is important step has established a basis to increase interchanges between both countries.
