On Oct. 29, the Gyeonggi Province has held a tablet hanging ceremony for the “Nano Element Specialized Fab Center” at the Gyeonggi Small Business Center in the presence of about 150 officials including the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Hak-kyu, Minister of the Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), Seoul National Univ., Sungkyunkwan Univ., Ajou Univ., Hanyang Univ., Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Korean Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and other important organizations within the province. 

Nano Element Specialized Fab Center is a national policy project by MOST and was put together 6 organization consortiums including Gyeonggi-do and KIST on May 29. Gyeonggi-do will provide 90 billion Won worth budget and building site and another 15.6 billion Won will be contributed by MOST (50 billion Won), KIST, KETI, Seoul National Univ.,Sungkyunkwan Univ.,Hanyang Univ.,Ajou Univ., and other organs. Total budget to be used for this is 160 billion Won. 

The building site of the Nano Element Specialized Fab Center is about 10,000 pyeong and 3,600 pyeong will be used for Nano Fab (Fabrication) facilities and 6,000 pyeong for laboratories, 6,000 pyeong for venture businesses. The center will not limited to Gyeonggi-do only but will also be used as a public service function supporting R&D and high-tech venture businesses on nano technology for universities, research institutes, and enterprises throughout Korea. 

Governor Sohn delivered a congratulatory address at the ceremony on “seizing the opportunity of taking off as an advanced nation with technology influencing the industrial territory” and added, “the 10,000 pyeong global R&D complex in Iui-dong, Suwon City will be developed into a hub of high-tech science technology in Southeast Asia.
