As patients showing similar symptoms to the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in Shanghai and Beijing are being reported from China, the Gyeonggi provincial government announced on Apr. 26 that a follow-up supervision on visitors from the same locale and preventive measures would be taken. 

Medical inspection and heat detectors will be used to enhance examinations on immigrants from China and a registration method will be used to follow-up with immigrants’ whereabouts. 

For quick and precise information interchange between medical institutions, a “Medical institution SARS network” will be established to preliminarily prevent SARS from spreading and other surveillance measures will be intensified. An “Epidemic information net” will also be set to thoroughly grasp foreign SARS movement. 

An official from the provincial government commented, “Fever of over 38℃, accompanied with difficulty in breathing (coughing, respiratory problems, panting, etc.) may be misjudged as pneumonia or RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome) but any disorder that cannot be explained clearly must be suspected as SARS.” 

He also added “If traveling in a SARS tainted district, avoid crowded areas and take special precautions in personal health such as cleaning hands.”
