Gyeonggi Province Agricultural Research & Extension Services (President: Jeon Se-chang) is hosting an international mushroom symposium on December 10 in commemoration of the completion of the Agricultural Science Research Pavilion.

A total of 5.6 billion won was invested in the work to build the three-story, 3,380-square meter pavilion, which was started on last January 13. The pavilion comprised of spaces for research and international conference as well as labs is expected to contribute to hi-tech research, including agricultural biotechnology, focused on development of new species, improvement of functional materials and environmental-friendly agricultural technologies as well as bolstering knowledge-based agricultural research capability, including development of post-harvest management technologies.

In the international symposium held in commemoration of the completion of the building, more than 150 mushroom specialists, mushroom-growing farmers and relevant officials from Korea, China and Japan will attend.

Presenters of opinions in the symposium as panelists include Park Jeong-shik at GARES (on Development Strategy for the Nation’s Mushroom Growing Industry), and Dr. Takabatake Koji at the Toyama Forestry and Forest Products Research Center (on How to Improve the Land for Growing High Quality Mushrooms).
