– Concentrated Automobile Emission Control inside the Province between December 20, 2004 and February 28, 2005 –

Gyeonggi-do launched an automobile emission control project to prevent drastic air quality deterioration within the Seoul Metropolitan Area in winter.

Large vehicles run on petroleum (city buses, district buses, trucks) will be made subject to base control, and those that fall under the standard will be issued suspensions (3-7 days) as well as fines.

City and district buses that do not pass the emission test will be disposed to be replaced by natural gas busses. Installment of emission filter devices such as DOC or DPF and replacement for low-pollution engines of LPG and LNG will be encouraged and supported to maximize the effect.

It will promote motor inspection and repair to reduce gas emission while running a campaign to educate the public on tips of car maintenance. It will offer free emission check continuously to facilitate voluntary efforts to decrease the air pollutant emission.

A provincial official stated, “Gyeonggi-do will offer control forces for local governing bodies that suffer from materialistic or HR shortage. It will encourage the public to cut down standing engine runs. The province will put forward its utmost effort to better the quality of air in the Seoul Metropolitan Area by running a large-scale campaign.”
