Gyeonggi Gov. Sohn chosen for “Donator of the Year”

Gyeonggi Province will deliver 100 million won in donation to the United Nations. 

Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday to join its initiative to help suffering children in the world. 

At a charity event to be held in central Seoul on the day, Gov. Soh Hak-kyu will hand over the money to Hyun Soong-jong, head of the Korean branch of the international organization. 

Gyeonggi Province opened a pavilion between Aug. 1 and Sept. 11 on the sidelines of the World Peace Festival. During the period, the province received raised fund by receiving money from visitors. 

The province said it will continue to have the pavilion in place in order to raise money and deliver it to the U.N. organization. 

UNICEF said it has selected Gov. Sohn as “Donator of the Year” and will present an appreciation plague to him to commemorate his humanitarian efforts during the charity event. 

The event will be attended by around 700 dignitaries including UNICEF goodwill ambassadors Ahn Sung-ki and Lee Young-ae and sports star Lee Seoung-youp, business leaders and others.
