– Traffic rose 31% year-on-year, the greatest such growth in the nation –

Gyeonggi Province announced that the container traffic of Pyeongtaek Port amounted to 32,021 TEU in March, up 31% from 24,519 TEU of the same month last year. Notably, China-related container traffic amounted to 30,567 TEU, representing 95.4% of the total traffic, which makes Pyeongtaek Port the national hub of trade with China.

According to an analysis of the container traffic of Pyeongtaek Port that was released on April 17, Pyeongtaek Port recorded its highest-ever container traffic in March, which shows that t is fulfilling its role as a logistics hub port of the Seoul Metropolitan area.

This can be attributed to Gyeonggi Province’s efforts to stimulate trade with China, open new routes, and attract shipping companies. The container traffic growth rate of Pyeongtaek Port was the highest in the nation, reaffirming the strengthened presence of the port.

Cho Byeong-seok, head of the Transportation Office of Gyeonggi Province, said, “The growth in container traffic can be attributed to the opening of 2 new berths and the entry of large 50,000-ton ships. Pyeongtaek Port will maintain its position as the port with the nation’s highest traffic flow when it successfully implements its plans for port sales and the opening of additional berths, scheduled for 2008. We intend to develop the enormous potential of Pyeongtaek Port as quickly as possible.”
