Gyeonggi Province will make a cash donation of USD 100 thousand as emergency aid to Haiti, which was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Given the fact that the delivery of aid goods takes longer, the Province decided to make the donation in cash. The Province announced on Janurary 18th that the donation will be delivered through the Republic of Korea National Red Cross.

This is not the first time Gyeonggi Province has actively participated in international aid.  In 2005, the Province donated KRW 20 million to Indonesia after it was hit by an earthquake and tsunami, and also donated USD 200 thousand to Louisiana in the US when it was struck by a torrential hurricane. It also donated USD 300 thousand to Sichuan Province in China after it was hit by an earthquake in 2009.

Haiti is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea.  It has received aid from the international community in the past after being devasted by hurricanes.
