Preparations set in motion with Gyeonggi Provincial Government signing a Memorandum of Understanding with seven related institutions and organizations

“Gyeonggi Province presents the pleasure of leisure sports on land and in the sky.”

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will hold an exciting festival in the Yangpyeong area which offers ideal conditions for all people who love leisure sports.

For the success of the event, the Provincial Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with seven organizations and institutions including Yangpyeong County, the Korean Alpine Federation, Korea Off-road Bike Association, Reftcom Ltd., the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, and the Gyeonggi Performing & Film Commission at 2 pm on August 16th.

The seven bodies agreed to provide full support – such as safety measures, parking spaces, publicity, and visitor assistance – in order to establish the leisure sports festival as Gyeonggi’s representative tourism brand.

Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-Soo said, “Unlike other leisure sports competitions, the Gyeonggi Leisure Sports Festival is an open event in which men and women of all ages can participate.” He added, “The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will do its utmost to develop the festival into Gyeonggi’s representative leisure sports festival while also promoting related industries and tourism.”

For the festival, Gyeonggi Province will organize events in which visitors can experience the thrills of paragliding, the delights of mountain climbing, and the pleasures of MTB riding and camping.

The 119 Fire Fighting Event, the Paragliding Camp, and various other cultural performances will differentiate the festival different from other leisure sports competitions. The event is expected to secure it position as a leisure sports festival, both nominally and virtually, in which people from all walks of life are welcome to join.

The Provincial Government has organized a task force team comprised of leading leisure sports experts to comprehensively prepare for the event.

The Provincial Government has designed the event to take a lead in nurturing the South Korean leisure sports market – valued at KRW 400 million – and to publicize the province’s natural environment which offers considerable potentiality as a mecca of leisure sports.
