Gyeonggi Province Runs the “I Love DMZ Documentaries” Train Travel Program

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will operate the nation’s first train travel program, “I Love DMZ Documentaries,” during the 2nd DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival.

Participants can enjoy three days of non-stop travel by train from Busan Station to Imjingang Station, see the scars left by the Korean War and enjoy the mood of Paju, a cultural city, as well as the documentary festival.
The first festival screened documentaries that dealt with the world’s only Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which were highly acclaimed for both their cinematic quality and their popularity. The second festival is expected to be even greater and will feature numerous events.

In particular, the train travel program, “I Love DMZ Documentaries.” is the nation’s first amalgamation of train travel and a film festival.

The travel program was jointly organized by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, the Paju City Government Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival. It is scheduled to run on September 8 (Wed) and September 10 (Fri) and will coincide with the festival, which will be held from September 9 to 13 (Tue to Mon), 2010.

The journey starts from Busan Station and arrives at Imjingang Station via Dongdaegu Station. After arriving at Imjingang Station, travelers will taste delicacies of the DMZ Tongilchon restaurant, and then visit the third underground tunnel (4 kilometers south of Panmunjeom), Dorasan Observatory and Imjingak. After that, travelers can enjoy the Heyri PAN Festival, the Paju Book Festival and the 2nd DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival.

The first group of travelers will have the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival, which will take place at a special venue in the Gateway of Reunification on Tuesday, September 9, at 6p.m. The second group of travelers can participate in a cycling tour around DMZ that will start at Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park in Imjingak on Saturday, September 11, at 11a.m. and provide them with the opportunity to enjoy both a DMZ tour and the film festival.

The train travel program, “I Love DMZ Documentaries,” offers participants a chance to tour the DMZ and view the scars of the Korean War. They can also enjoy various cultural festivals including the film festival with movies and cultural performances that are expected to revitalize participants.
The three-day non-stop train program, “I Love DMZ Documentaries,” starts at Busan Station and Dongdaegu Station, respectively. Reservations can be made by visiting the websites of Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (www.ethankyou.co.kr), the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival (www.dmzdocs.com) or KORAIL (www.korail.com).
