For Policymaking Related to Foreign Residents and Multicultural Families
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, is investigating the real conditions of foreigners staying as workers or part of multicultural families in South Korea from February 7 to May 20.
This survey is designed to obtain reliable statistics on foreign residents and to facilitate implementation of systematic and comprehensive policies for foreigners and multicultural families.
– Foreign Resident : Foreigners and their children who have entered South Korea to live and acquired Korean citizenship, or those who have stayed in Korea more than 90 days
– Multicultural Family : A family whose members are comprised of native Koreans and (a) foreign immigrant(s) or (a) foreigner(s) naturalized as (a) Korean citizen(s)
The survey will be conducted primarily through a computer system that gathers the required information from alien registration systems used by administrative bodies.
* Alien registration information / resident registration / family relations registration information system
* Field surveys including visits to foreign residents¡¯ houses will be conducted if needed.
The objects of the survey are statistical data regarding alien residents¡¯ types (such as alien workers, immigrants for marriage, overseas Koreans), nationalities, gender, and ages (of children as well as adults), and the organizations supporting alien residents. The results of the survey will be announced by the Ministry of Public Administration and Safety in late May.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will utilize the results of the survey to examine the current living conditions, such as financial conditions and lifestyles, of alien residents including immigrants for marriage, and to make policies to support them.
Jeon Suk-yeong, Director General of the Gyeonggi Women and Family Bureau, asked the governing bodies of cities and counties to cooperate and support the survey. He stressed, ¡°The survey of the actual conditions of alien residents is an important foundational work to establish the better polices for social integration.¡±
