Korea’s most popular musicians sing of peace and reconciliation at the DMZ
Gyeonggi Province’s DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival, MBC and Paju City’s DMZ Peace Concert will be held at Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park for three consecutive days from August 13th to 15th.
Korea’s most popular musicians will be there to entertain audiences by singing songs of peace on stage.
At 19:00 on the first day of the event there will be an “Oh! Peace Korea” concert during which Baek Ji-young, BMK, Jang Hye-jin, Jaurim, George Han Kim, Boohwal, and In Soo-ni will grace the stage with their signature performances. Comedienne Park Su-hong and announcer Koo Eun-young will host the concert.
On the night of the 14th, announcers Oh Sang-jin and Choe Yun-Jeong will host the “We are the Peace Generation” concert featuring idol groups TVXQ, Super Junior, 2NE1, IU, MblaQ, Secret, Miss A, K. Will, and Homme as well as singer Bobby Kim and pop-opera singer Shin Moony.
On the evening of the 15th, which also marks the 66th Anniversary of Korean Independence, there will be a classic performance starting at 19:00. International conductor Daniel Barenboim will lead the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and featured soprano Jo Su-mi in the Daniel Barenboim??West-Eastern Divan Orchestra Peace Concert.
The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra began as an effort to foster peace between Israel and Palestine. One-hundred and fifty chorus singers will be at the DMZ Peace Concert, marking the peak of the event as well as its grand finale.
“Oh! Peace Korea” will be complementary. Tickets for the last concert, the Daniel Barenboim Peace Concert, can be purchased for KRW 35,000 from interpark.com. Profits from ticket sales will be donated to the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra’s charity activities.
This DMZ Peace Concert will be recorded and broadcast on MBC TV. “Oh! Peace Korea” will be televised at 12:20 a.m. after the live show. “We are the Peace Generation” will be aired by 11:50 p.m. the same night. The “Daniel Barenboim Peace Concert” will be on television at 12:35 a.m.
At the concert location, twenty Catholic University of Korea students known as “DMZ Peace Supporters” will promote the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival through the utilization of fresh and appealing concepts.
DMZ Peace Supporters will carry out various activities during the three days of the concert to promote the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival, and will hand out invitations to 1,000 Gyeonggi Province residents who attend the concert along with free Gyeonggi Paju Culture Passes, Ichae Cinus film reservation coupons, Korean movie DVDs, and makeup samples.
The 3rd DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival will begin on September 22 and run until September 28 in collaboration with Ichae Cinus and Paju Book City. Over 100 documentary entries from 40 countries around the world will be featured during the festival.
