Gyeonggi Province’s Economic Policy Receives Awards

Gyeonggi Province wins ten important awards in the economic field this year!

◇ Gyeonggi Province won the Presidential Award at the 49th trading Day in recognition of its success in exporting goods worth more than KRW 1 trillion for two consecutive years.

Gyeonggi Province’s drive to create new jobs and stabilize the grassroots economy through structural reform, including the establishment of new positions (economy vice-governor), has finally borne fruit. Gyeonggi Province posted a landmark achievement the end of the year, taking home ten awards in the economics field.
 
Gyeonggi Province received a Presidential Citation in four categories including grassroots economy and price stabilization, a Prime Ministerial Citation in two categories including science technology, and four Ministerial Awards in four categories including job support.
 
2012 was a year in which Gyeonggi Province made some noticeable achievements in stabilizing and stimulating the grassroots economy. The province won two citations at the National Contest for the ‘Best Price Stabilizing Strategies’ after conducting a questionnaire on ‘Good Price Venue Designation Status’ last May and organizing large ‘Market Days’ for traditional market places. Gyeonggi Province went on to win the Presidential Award at the Grassroots Financial Achievement Report on December 12.
 
Gyeonggi Province’s operation of Grassroots Finance Support Centers at Suwon and Uijeongbu Station has earned it good reviews. This is the first time that a government body has earned an award in this category.

Gyeonggi Province also won a Presidential Award in the next generation growth engine category during the 49thTrade Day event held on the 5th of December. It was the first time the municipal government won a Presidential Award since the event was found for allotting more than KRW 13 billion to support 27,000 small and medium businesses based in Gyeonggi Province each year.
 
Gyeonggi Province won the “Grand Korea Exhibition Project Award,” a first among any government body, and the Prime Minister citation “Creative Science Technology Award” for visiting small and medium companies based in the province for support in its “Technical Doctor Program.”
 
The local government was the overall winner at the National Skills Competition for youth job creation, its 16th victory at the event so far. Gyeonggi Province took home the Prime Minister Citation for setting a good example of labor and union settlements, and selected as model institute for the small and medium business healing project and developing social enterprises.
 
Head of Economy & Investment Office Jeon Seong-tae said “I am glad our efforts to improve the region’s grassroot economy did not go unrecognized. We will continue to focus on creating jobs, developing next generation growth engines, and stabilizing the grassroot economy.”
