Gyeonggi Province held qualifying round for ‘2013 Korea Match Cup International Yacht Race’ on April 25 to 28 in Jebudo of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. International Yacht Race of this year will be held in Jeongok Port of Hwaseong City on May 29 to June 2.

In the preliminary of this year participate in a total of 6 teams including 4 domestic teams (including Kim Tae-jung of Pyeongtaek City Hall, Part Geon-woo of Busan Match, Part Byung-gi of Geoje City Hall and Jin Hong-cheol of Chungnam) and 2 overseas teams (including David Gilmour of Australia and Jeremy Koo of Malaysia). No.1 racer among the domestic and overseas teams, respectively, will qualify for the final.

In this competition, each team of 5 members will race along the competition course in the same boat provided by the host for higher ranking.

The 6th year of ‘2013 Korea Match Cup International Yacht Race’ is a domestic competition of AWMRT (ALPARI World Match Racing Tour), officially recognized as America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race by ISAF (International Sailing Federation).

This competition is a kind of PGA tours for yacht competition, which will be broadcast on TV worldwide and held in 10 different countries every year.

In addition, ‘Gyeonggi Hwaseong Marine Festival’, which is held in the same period with ‘2013 Korea Match Cup International Yacht Race’, will offer maritime experiences including cruise yacht, power boat, dinghy yacht, water bumper car, and water bicycle, on-land experiences including pedal boat and air bounce playground, and musical performances for children.

One official from the executive office of International Yacht Race said, “We expect Korea Match Cup International Yacht Race will hint at a prelude for its reputation as international competition through the qualifying round of this time.” He also said, “In addition to competitors participating in the qualifying round, please pay close attention to the final in the end of May and Gyeonggi Hwaseong Marine Festival, which will be held at the same time.”

Meanwhile, the executive office of International Yacht Race took part in Cherry Blossom Festival of Gyeonggi Provincial Complex, held on April 19, and offered ‘face painting’ of drawing pictures of yachts and boats and ‘Like event’ for Facebook, thereby enjoying much attention from visitors.
