Gyeonggi’s Jeongok Prehistory Museum is selected as the Top 7 Best Architectures of the Year by the Korean Institute of Architects.

First enacted in 1979, the Top 7 Best Architectures of the Year is selected by the Korean Institute of Architects every year among architectural works with high architectural accomplishment as well as perfection in goal achievement and function. It is a prestigious award given to the relevant architecture, owner and builder.

The Top 7 Best Architectures of the Year were chosen from 241 entries after undergoing primary judging, main evaluation and on-site screening.

“Jeongok Prehistory Museum (designed by Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazieres), resembling a golden reptile hunched up on a hill, is well recognized for its innovative exterior and high level of perfection beyond space and time,” said Yoo Geol, chairman of the screening committee.

“Moreover, specific programs played a major role in the selection,” he explained. “This indicates how the foundation to clearly understand the purpose of the design is well portrayed by the building itself.”

The award-winning works are as follows: Ecological Experience Center of ECOPLEX in Seocheon, Chungnam (designed by Park Do-kwon); Jeongok Prehistory Museum (designed by Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazieres) in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi; Sunbyeokwon inside the campus of the University of Seoul (designed by Lee Choong-gi); Haeden Museum of Art in Ganghwado, Incheon (designed by Bae Dae-yong); Humanist company building in Mapo-gu, Seoul (designed by Kim Jun-seong); Mughakdong in Geoje, Gyeongnam (designed by Yoo Hyun-joon); and  private residence in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul (designed by Cho Nam-ho).

Last year, Jeongok Prehistory Museum received the Excellence Award in the completed building sector (social/public) of the 2012 Korean Architecture Award.
