“The singer Psy is not the only icon that publicizes Korea. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of Gyeonggi Province will be the roots of the Korean Wave. We expect positive harmony and efforts from the entrepreneurs so that ‘Made in Korea’ will be the keyword of economic vitalization demanded by customers all over the world.”

Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo attended the 2013 Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Day event held in Gwanggyo Hall of Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center (GSBC) in Suwon on November 22 to present citations to outstanding entrepreneurs and encourage the SMEs in Gyeonggi Province.

Hosted by Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Association (GSMBA) and sponsored by Gyeonggi Pronvince, this event was attended by over 300 people including Governor Kim Moon-soo; Kang Si-woo, president of Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA); Hong Ki-hwa, CEO of Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center (GSBC); Park Chung-taek, president of Gyeonggi Institute of Science & Technology Promotion; Geum Jong-rye and An Hae-young, members of the provincial assembly; and entrepreneurs of SMEs in the province.

“As the birth rate declined rapidly and the percentage of senior citizens increased in Korea, there have been changes in the supply and demand of jobs,” said Governor Kim. “There are now more job offerers than job seekers. This indicates that we can no longer expect domestic development. We must focus now on exports.”

He also added, “Strong Gyeonggi SMEs must take the initiative in leading the global export market. We are in desperate need of cooperation and interchange among related organizations including GSBC. Gyeonggi Province will concentrate its energy in providing support for Gyeonggi SMEs to grow and leap into the world.”

Citations were given to about 50 outstanding entrepreneurs and men of merit, including the citations from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Gyeonggi Governor, and president of SMBA.

“The progress of our company as well as many SMEs in the province is grounded on various supports by Gyeonggi Province and GSBC, as well as active communication and cooperation among companies,” said Han Myoung-soo, CEO of Sungsan Engineering & Construction who received a citation from Gyeonggi Governor. “I would like to thank the unstinted support of related organizations including Gyeonggi Province, and we will do our best to make constant efforts for improvement.”

Celebrating the 6th year of the event, there was a job fair for excellent talents, a talk concert ‘Creation, Healing, Start-up’ by Yonsei University professor Kim Hyoung-cheol, and a special invited lecture ‘Entrepreneurship’ by Kim Gwang-ho, president of Combi Marketing Research Institute.

“This event was founded in 2008 to enhance corporate competitiveness by providing an occasion for harmony and communication among Gyeonggi SMEs,” said Yoon Yoon-sik, president of GSMBA who hosted the event. “I hope this was a meaningful occasion for SMEs to activate networks and discuss win-win strategies to overcome the financial crisis.”
