2013 Winter Festival comes up to make December special for you, to look around you and close the year that had been so hectic. Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Arts Center host 2013 Winter Festival to round off this year beautifully from December 6 to 27 at Gyeonggi Arts Center Happy Grand Theater and Cozy Small Theater.

The Winter Festival offers seven performances for you to enjoy with families, lovers and friends with premium repertoires carefully selected from various genres such as classical music, Korean traditional music, ballet and musical.

The Nutcracker by Korean National Ballet: A Christmas fantasy for the whole family

In December, there is a worldwide spotlight on the ballet The Nutcracker with Christmas as its background. As it is a fixed repertoire for the winter season, there are different versions of a variety of choreographers. Korean National Ballet adopts the version choreographed by Yury Grigorovich who led the Bolshoi Ballet to be the best in the world.

The performance is lively and exuberant with Grigorovich’s bold and dynamic choreography. Delicate yet sharp advanced techniques as well as splendid and adorable performances catch the eye of the audience.

In particular, Act II presents the finale of the wedding between the heroine Marie and the Prince with an exciting parade of traditional dances of various countries such as Spain, Arabia, China, France and Russia, embroidering the most brilliant and wonderful performance with “Waltz of the Flowers” and “Waltz of the Snow.”

This musical presents a deep affection among two old women with a painful history and a chicken, dog and cat. An old woman Park Bok-nyeo lives in a rural village in Daegu with a lost puppy Mong, an abandoned cat Nang, and a hen Ko that cannot produce eggs well.
