On March 30, Governor Nam emphasized the ‘Pangyo Standard’ at the launching event for the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation

On March 30, Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil expressed his expectations for Pangyo to become a city full of dreams for younger generations with the opening of the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation. 

At the opening ceremony for the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, Governor Nam said, “We will create a city full of dreams where our youths with dreams and passion can pursue their ambitions even if they come empty handed.” He added, “The Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation will become a gateway towards achieving that goal.” 

On the afternoon of March 30, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Ministry of Science ICT and Future Planning, Ministry of Sports Tourism, and KT hosted an opening ceremony for the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation in the International Conference Room of the Pangyo Public Support Center. This event marked the opening of the eighth such center in the nation.

Special guests led by President Park Geun-hye, Governor Nam Kyung-pil, Science, ICT and Future Planning Minister Choi Yang-hee, Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Kim Jong-deok, KT President Hwang Chang-kyu, Chinese Investment Development Promotion Group Chairman Ma Jia, and Telefonica representative Luis Solana attended the ceremony, offering their congratulations on opening the new center.

Governor Nam said, “One of the new standards Gyeonggi Province aspires to realize is the ‘Pangyo Standard’.” He added, “We seek to establish a creative ecosystem that enables anyone with dreams, courage, and talent to come and succeed here.”

Governor Nam emphasized that the “Pangyo Standard will begin today at the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation.” He continued, “It will offer every type of service necessary for people with creative economic minds in a customized one-stop format.”

Additionally, Governor Nam said, “My dream is for Korea to become an advanced country. Advanced countries export standards not products.” He also said, “For Korea to become an advanced country both in name and in reality, we must create and export global standards.”

The new center will occupy the first and fifth floors of the Pangyo Public Support Center and offer open-type networking areas including an audition room and meeting room as well as development labs, the first fin-tech support center in Korea, and spaces for startups (new venture companies).

As such, the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation is expected to become a key strategic point in creating new convergence businesses based on IT, and will function as a hub for the spread of creative economy across the globe.

Based on its locational advantage in the Pangyo Techno Valley and its IT/software industry infrastructure, the center will support the creation of new businesses in games, fin-tech, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
