Opening ceremony held on April 24 at Cerapia… 500 guests including Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil attend

The 2015 Gyeonggi International CeraMIX Biennale officially launched its 38-day long run at Cerapia in Incheon at 2 p.m. on April 24.

The event, which is sponsored by Gyeonggi Province and overseen by the Korea Ceramic Foundation, will continue until May 31. The opening event was attended by 500 guests including Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil, officials from the embassies of Switzerland and Egypt, the Chairman of China Cultural Center in Seoul, the Director of the British Council Korea, the President of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) and staff members from local and foreign ceramic organizations.

The opening ceremony began with vivid fireworks and a performance by the Gyeonggi Provincial Traditional Music Orchestra. This was followed by a report on events by Korea Ceramic Foundation President Lee Wan-hee and opening remarks by Governor Nam Kyung-pil. In addition, awards for winners of the 2015 Gyeonggi International CeraMIX Biennale Global Competition were presented.

The 2015 Gyeonggi International CeraMIX Biennale, which will run for 38 days until May 31, is themed on “Color: Ceramic Spectrum – Distinctive Color, Variegated Color, Traditional Color”. The event will consider the past, present and future of ceramics in Icheon, Yeoju and Gwangju.

Of particular note, reinforcing the theme, various regional and character-focused programs will take place.

Focusing on ‘distinctive color’, in Icheon, programs like ‘Exaction and Expansion’, an international ceramics academic conference and an international ceramics workshop will take place to identify the future of ceramics. 

Yeoju, oriented towards variegated colors, will validate the present of ceramics by holding the “Five Colors and Five Senses Exhibition”, which combines ceramics with various genres like sound, light and webtoons.

Themed on traditional color, Gwangju, where Chosun Kwanyo was found, will redefine the traditional value of ceramics by holding the “East Asia Traditional Ceramics Exhibition”.

In addition, this year’s Biennale will emphasize the specialty and purity of an art festival. In addition, various education programs and events like Kids Biennale Season 3, Toya Star Expedition, Fire Festival and Experiencing Ceramics with Master Craftsman will take place for the public.
