survey
◇ According to the results of the 2015
public tourism survey announced by the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute on
May 31, Gyeonggi Province was the most visited region in Korea by domestic
tourists with 15.45 million visitors; it was followed by Seoul with 12.45

The survey results show that
Gyeonggi Province was the tourist destination most often frequented by Korean
tourists.
According to the results of
the 2015 public tourism survey announced by the Korea Culture and Tourism
Institute on May 31, Gyeonggi Province was the most visited region in Korea by
domestic tourists with 15.45 million visitors; it was followed by Seoul with
12.45 million and Gangwon Province with 11.55 million.
Domestic tourism participant refers
to those who have gone on an overnight trip or day trip in Korea. The number of
domestic tourists in 2014 was 15.28 million, which means the number of domestic
tourists increased by 170,000 in 2015.
Gyeonggi Province was second
in terms of overnight tourism with 8.46 million, just behind Gangwon Province
which attracted 9.40 million visitors; however, it came first with 10.86
million in terms of day trips. This means that Gyeonggi Province was able to
hold on to the title of most popular domestic tourist destination for the fifth
consecutive year since 2011.
With the number of domestic
tourists increasing, tourism income also increased. Gyeonggi Province earned
KRW 3.3 trillion through domestic tourism in 2015, representing a 10% increase
over the KRW 3 trillion it earned in 2014. This means that Gyeonggi Province
was now first in tourism income after coming behind Gangwon Province in 2014.
Meanwhile, the number of
foreign tourists visiting Korea stands at 13.23 million; of this number, 13.3%,
or 1.76 million, visited Gyeonggi Province.
Gyeonggi Province
Tourism Division Director Rah Ho-ik said, “Now we have the top spot in
overnight domestic tourism left. We will do our best to attract domestic
tourists and become the top destination for overnight tourism by enhancing our
preparations to receive those tourists.”
