Gyeonggi Province is set to
create the Broadcasting Image Culture Contents Valley near the Hallyu World project
site.
On June 20, Gyeonggi Province
announced that it plans to invest approximately KRW 580 billion by 2022 in the
Janghang-dong area in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang City. The investment will create the
700,000m2 Broadcasting Image Culture Contents Valley (Broadcasting
Complex).
The Broadcasting Complex is
expected to feature broadcasting, cultural, public, and commercial/integrated
facilities.
The Broadcasting Complex is
part of the provincial government’s plan to attract the broadcasting and image
industry, the largest growth factor in the spread of the Korean Wave, for
development as a future growth engine.
The project will be jointly
undertaken by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and the Gyeonggi Urban
Innovation Corporation (GUIC) as an urban development project. The former is
expected to carry out overall management, planning and administrative support
while the latter is expected to carry out working-level tasks in development
and site construction.
Last May, GUIC finished the master
plan and commercialization study. With the feasibility review this month, it
expects to designate the urban development zone in mid-2017 and to have the
development plans approved by late-2018 for site allocation.
The tentative Broadcasting
Complex site is adjacent to KINTEX; it is situated between Hallyu World and the
planned site for Janghang public housing complex (Youth Smart Town). As such,
it offers excellent locational conditions.
In addition, the site is near
the Seoul Beltway, Jayuro Highway, and the 2nd Jayuro Highway, which
puts it just 35 minutes away from Incheon International Airport, 20 minutes
away from Gimpo International Airport, and 50 minutes away from the central business
district in Seoul, which is a major advantage.
A provincial government official
said, “When
the Broadcasting Complex is complete, it will feature broadcasting facilities
inside Hallyu World such as those of JTBC, EBS, and Bitmaru as well as the civic
facilities of the Janghang public housing complex (Youth Smart Town) including
the Youth Knowledge Industry Center, Youth Startup Support Center, and Creative
Studio. This will help this entire area become a center of the broadcasting,
image and culture industries.”
