To offer a pleasant living environment and spaces for relaxation to the residents of Gyeonggi-do, the province is driving a movement for 10 million residents to plant a tree each year for 10 years, until 2012. The “Pleasant Environment” movement will be progressed until 100 million trees are planted.

A briefing session, “Green Gyeonggi Program 21”, was held last June 30 and topics about Gyeonggi-do parks, greenbelt status was analyzed, measurements on policy directions, vision and strategies and also participation of residents were discussed.

Main topics includes on how to create a city coexistence with nature it self. The Core Green surrounding Seoul and the Main Green in Gyeonggi-do will be joined to establish a Green Belt. This Green Belt will be preserved from various kinds of constructions such as in housing and highways. Gaps between the greenbelt will be connected (restored) with eco-bridges and tunnels to build a green zone network.

The basic plan will simultaneously evaluate the importance and facile of each area and also of each industry to consult and coordinate with urban planning. The green plan will be reflect to city plans.

In addition, to promote the interest and participation of residents and also foster a public opinion, projects of creating large scaled parks, green environments for jogging and cycling, forests and greening near schools are promoted together.

Main group of the movement will enforce various participation programs (creating cyber park and family gardens) and especially organize programs related with social education.
