Observation group from Guangdongsheng visited Gyeonggi-do from July 13 to July 16 for the construction of a fraternal park. The group made an on-site inspection of the 7 park proposed sites-Suwon Hyowon Park , Yeongheung Park, Yongin Sang Gal Park, Icheon Seol Bong Park, Goyang China Town, Ansan Hwarang Resort, Siheung Okgu Park-and will choose one site for the construction.

The fraternal park construction project with China was promoted as a cooperation project following the “Joint Statement for the Fraternal Interchange between Both Provinces” concluded during provincial governor Hak-kyu Sohn stay at Guangdongsheng on October 17, 2002. Since then, a group from Gyeonggi-do has visit Guangdongsheng twice and choose the Wol Su Park located in Gwangju Si, Guangdongsheng as the site proposed for a traditional Korean park.

The traditional Korean park to be constructed in Guangdongsheng by Gyeonggi-do will be 6,000m₂ in the Wol Su Park, construction is scheduled starting from this year till 2004 and construction costs is estimated as 3.4 billion Won. Guangdongsheng will constitute the base for the park facility in Gyeonggi-do and the traditional Chinese park will be constructed on the site chosen from the Chinese observation group’s visit. Size and construction costs are similar to that of the traditional Korean park to be constructed in Guangdongsheng.

After the Chinese group chooses the construction site, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will be in charge of plans and actual construction. Construction work starts in November of this year and completes in 2004.

The fraternal park construction project is to create a unique, traditional park of each country and will be used as a mutual interchange between Gyeonggi-do and Guangdongsheng. This project is expected to contribute to activate cultural and tourist interchange between the two provinces and also so Korean residents in China to feel their homeland.
