A Japanese investment company, Delaglass Korea Co., which produces important new material TFT-LCD acryl resin used on LCDs, has finished constructing it’s Pyeongtaek Plant in the morning of Nov. 20. About 100 representatives from in and out of Korea, including the Provincial Governor of Gyeonggi-do, Hak-kyu Sohn, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, members from the National Assembly, the president of Asahi Kasei Chemical, have attended the completion ceremony at the Chupal Industrial Rental Complex.

Delaglass Korea Co. is a joint venture composed of 60% of Asahi Kasei Chemical 60%, 30% of RAYGEN and 10% Samsung Corp. Asahi Kasei Chemical is famous for its technology in manufacturing light guide panels for TFT-LCD made with acryl press sheets. Light guide panels or diffusers are main parts of the backlight unit (BLU) used in TFT-LCD and only world famous Asahi Kasei Chemical, Sumitomo Chemical and Mitsubishi have the technology to produce them.

The completion of the Delaglass Korea Co. means that import-dependent optical press sheets used to make TFT-LCD panels can be now developed within in country. In other words, an opportunity cost of about 30 billion Won each year is forecasted.

Samsung Electronics and LG.Philips LCD require a more secure supply source to maintain competitive advantage in the TFT-LCD international market. Joining Asahi Kasei’s production technology, RAYGEN’s manufacturing and quality management capability, and Samsung Corporation’s marketing and distribution abilities into one big joint corporation is evaluated as an outcome of strategic cooperation.
