From Dec. 12 to Feb. 29 next year, a special exhibition displaying Spanish sacred paintings will be held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum to honor interchange between Gyeonggi-do and Catalonia and the Year of Spain, 2003.

This event is composed of artwork on the life of Jesus Christ from Catalonian regions (possession of the National Museum of Catalonia). These artworks are known to secure the original tradition and position of Spain art.

Artworks to be on display range will not only show the historical flow of art, from Romanesque art to Gothic art and also modern art. Artwork from the early 12th century and up to the 20th century will be open to the public.

Distinguishing fresco, handicrafts such as metal and cloisonné ware, paintings drawn by local artists will be displayed (16 paintings, 9 handicrafts and 7 sculptures).

This special exhibition is not only an opportunity to experience the unique artistic background of Catalonia fine arts and sonorous Christian artwork, but also a stepping stone to promote cultural exchange between Gyeonggi-do and Catalonia and also between Korea and Spain.
