An international school with a capacity of one thousand students will be established on the land of the Bogwang Water Purification Plant, located in Hanam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
This school is a joint project undertaking of the Seoul government and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE). Construction site of 20,524 pyeong and establishment area of 6,000 pyeong makes this institution to be the largest international school in Asia.
This is the first time in history that the government has come forth to build an international school in such a large scale.
The school will initially be composed of two schools each using English and German languages. Other schools using other languages such as French are under plan.
Playground, swimming pool, gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria and other facilities will be used among all schools.
The Seoul government has provided the land and MOCIE is responsible with other private organizations of the construction expenditures. A more detailed project plan will be decided on upon deliberation among the three parties.
Seoul plans to settle modifications to city planning and transfer procedures of property until June next year and MOCIE plans to establish a corporation to operate the school by March next year.
Construction of the international school will start in December next year and will be completed for the opening of the school which is expected to be for the fall semester of 2006.
