Nearby the new town in Pangyo, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, an international school and public foreign language school will be established, each to be operated with a curriculum from preschool up to high school.
Seongnam-si has recently called up an urban planning committee and announced on Feb. 28 of the decision to establish Korea International School (KIS) in San 68, Baekhyeon-dong (8,592 pyeong) and Seongnam Foreign Language School in San 376, Baekhyeon-dong (5,651 pyeong).
KIS, expected to open in August next year, is actually moving from Gaepo-dong, Seoul but preschool and elementary school courses will remain on the Gaepo-dong campus. Bundang KIS will first establish middle and high school courses at its first year and then chronologically include preschool and elementary school courses. Each 13 grade will have 4 classes with 20 students each (total 52 classes with 1,040 students). Tuition will be about 14 to 17 million won per year.
Students with foreign nationality and Korean nationalities with foreign denizenship are qualified for enrollment but children of diplomats, resident officers, researcher and scholars who have stayed abroad for over 5 years in service for Korea obtain special qualifications. Even with admission requirements, students must pass a scholastic aptitude test equal to that of local American private schools.
In addition, Seongnam Foreign Language School is expected to open next to the international school in March next year with 24 classes.
