Provincial Governor Sohn visits US to induce foreign capital

Governor Sohn Hak-kyu (孫鶴圭) of Gyeonggi-do will visit the US from Apr. 18 till 25 with an investment promotion team. 

During their stay, they will visit Wilmington, Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco and other parts of America, visiting two auto parts manufacturers and 6 IT related enterprises. 

Sohn especially plans to meet up with Charles O. Holliday, chairman and CEO of Dupont to talk about investment and R&D facilities within Gyeonggi-do, that are related with new technology on color filters used in TFT-LCDs. 
Negotiations on building R&D centers within the province will be discussed with the world famous auto parts enterprise, Delphi and an investment MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) is planned to be concluded with Johnson Controls, a global leader in automotive systems. 

The promotion team will also visit Silicon Valley to discuss with Intel on moving into Bundang Venture Bld. and plans to conclude another MOU with SIEMENS Medical, manufacturer of high-tech medical machinery. 

If the team succeeds in inducing high-tech manufacturers and R&D Centers during their visit to the US, the result will greatly benefit to IT and automobile businesses within the province and also create new jobs to relieve employment for high-quality human resources. 

The Gyeonggi-do government believes this visit will greatly contribute on materializing the auto parts cluster that will be formed focusing in Hwaseong with the TFT-LCD cluster that links Paju-Suwon-Pyeongtaek. 

Governor Sohn and the investment promotion team visited Japan last Feb. and concluded two investment agreements (worth 160 million dollars), two investment MOUs (worth 90 million dollars) and three LOUs (Letter of Intent) (worth 150 million dollars), achieving seven investment cases (worth 346 million dollars) in total.
