Having worked together to develop new content that combines culture and arts with cutting-edge VR/AR technology, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Content Agency will be holding an exhibition that offers visitors the chance to discover their the resulting achievements in one place.

On January 16, Gyeonggi Province announced that the exhibition “ART & VR” exhibition will held from January 23 to 27 at G-HUB Gwanggyo.

Gyeonggi Province signed an agreement with ten teams consisting of local VR/AR companies and local artists in November last year and promoted the ART & VR Project in an effort to support their content development by providing production support and mentoring over three months.

This exhibition, held under the theme of “ART & VR Please Do Touch,” is expected to be an event where at which not only industry insiders, but also the general public can appreciate and experience VR/AR- based art works as they learn about the achievements of the ART & VR Project.

The ten major projects all feature VR content. – sSome provide visitors with the opportunity to enter into famous paintings, such as Kim Jeong-hui’s Sehando (Bby Painter Kim Yong-il and 9blocks), while others display underwater VR photographs picturing featuring the lives of the haenyeo (female divers; ) (Bby Tthe creative group SUM BI and the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation for Convergence Media Research of the University of Suwon). ; and oOther content offers enables visitors the possibility to view the performances and exhibitions of the Seoul Arts Center through VR (Seoul Arts Center and AlphaCircle).

Besides the exhibition, additional programs include: “Master Class,” where in which the audience can meet invited prominent artists and learn about their world of art and their philosophy; “Artist Talk,” that will offers the audience an opportunity to directly communicate and interact with artists; and “Matching Market,” and a chance for VR/AR content development companies and artistic and cultural agencies such as museums and galleries to meet network and seek new business opportunities.

Among the most eye-catching artists and works are Lee Lee- Nnam, a master of media art, and his representative work Cartoon Folding Screen II: Imagined Borders, as well as PUSYCREW from the United States and their work ROBOT LOVE IS QUEER. In addition, artist Hwayong Jung Hwa-yong will present his latest works that combine VR content and hardware. This artistJung has participated in Ars Electronica, a globally renowned media art festival, and has wonreceived an award a prize in the media art competition sponsored by Hyundai Motors, the VH Award.

On the weekend, a the “Children’s Experiential Classroom” will also be held, allowing the young audience participants to create VR content related to the works on display.
