The Seoho Art Gallery can be compared to pieces of a picture. On the first floor, the scenic view harmonizes with the art works on display while on the second floor, there is delicious food just like one would find at a friend’s cottage. In the gallery, musical concerts are held in conjunction with fine art displays ten times a year.

Also in the gallery are occasional exhibitions “Planet of Insects” from May 18. 2002 to Jun 10.

The gallery’s chamber orchestra, “Hwaeum,” take its name for the Korean word for “Picture and sound.” The band’s motto is “Music is the design of the soul of the person” because, for the member of Hwaeum, music is listened to in pictures and pictures are seen through music. The website of the gallery (http://www.hwaum.org) provides various pages of interest, such as the “Preview & Review” page, the “Story of Music and Arts” page, and the “Meeting with Members” page.

At the regular concert, a piece of work currently being exhibited at the gallery is chosen and an instantly-created melody of about five minutes in length is improvised by the musicians. Depending on the audience reaction, musical selections and the accompanying art are selected for further work and the duration and weight of the creative performances are gradually extended.
