This Seowon or the private academy was built in Noryangjin, Seoul in the 15th year (A.D 1689) of King Sukjong to pay tribute to the memory of Taebo Bark (A.D1654-1689) who made an admonition with death for the disposal of Queen Inhyeon and to ues the seowon as a local private school.

It was reconstructed in the 30th year (A.D 1754) of King Yeongjo and was one of 47 seowon that remained in spite of abolition policy of Lord Daewon. Taebo Bark, 2nd son of Saedang Bark, won first place in the civil service examination. In the 15th year of King Sukjong, he died at the age of 36 in Noryangjin on the way to Jindo Island in opposition to the disposal of Queen Inhyeon.

His misconduct was pardon during the 20th year of reign of King Sukjong and his social status had been elevated to a minister of personnel in acknowledging his devotion. The present building was reconstructed at the Cheungjeol Temple in 1969 where the painted picture of Siseop Gim, Maewol-dang, is enshrined.
