On June 4, 2004, Hanam Museum of History started from one section of the old city hall building. 10 years after opening, a new building with 2 underground floors and 3 above ground floors was built, and has been accepting citizens since October 30, 2014.

The permanent exhibition space of Hanam Museum of History is from the 2nd to the 3rd floor and displays 1,049 pieces of relics. Over 90% of the relics being displayed in the museum currently were either excavated in Hanam area or are related to Hanam. It could be said that Hanam Museum of History displays the ancient history and culture of Hanam systematically. Hanam Museum of History is composed of the Exhibit Hall 1 (Prehistoric Ages), Exhibit Hall 2 (Ancient Times), and Exhibit Hall 3 (Goryeo) on the third floor, Exhibit Hall 4 (Joseon) and Exhibit Hall 5 (Modern) on the second floor, and Special Exhibit Hall and Children Experience Hall on the first floor. The exhibition is divided by subjects and periods so that citizens can understand easily. Various media like created models, videos, and touchscreens were utilized, and small hands-on experience programs are prepared to satisfy all five senses.

Besides the exhibition, Museum University provides adults with lifelong learning opportunities on history, cultural heritage, and traditional culture with lectures on various subjects. Educational programs such as special lectures, the Misari Ancient culture experience room where children can get hands-on experience to feel and learn about Hanam’s history, and a hands-on program on Saturday’s traditional culture experience class are prepared. Furthermore, a field study for cultural relics program to provide opportunities to look around historic sites all over the country and enlarge one’s experience is being performed once a month.
