Boosted by strong exports and imports, Korea has regained 12th place in trading volume for the first time in six years.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Korea recorded $193.8 billion (USD) in exports in 2003, $178.8 billion in imports, and $372.6 billion in trade volume.
Korea first attained the 12th place ranking in global trade back in 1983. Since then, it oscillated between 11th and 13th place before dropping to 14th during the financial crisis in 1998.

Germany succeeded America last year and was honored as the first rank in world trading volume. China follows in 4th place in export (5th in ’02) and 3rd in import (6th in ’02) and Japan also ascended as world’s 4th largest trading volume.
