Eight of Gyeonggi’s local festivals were selected as “2018 Festivals for Culture and Travel” by the Korean Ministry of Culture on December 27.

“Festivals for Culture and Travel” are selected from among all domestic local festivals and rated as Representative, Excellent, Great, Prospective, or Subject for Care. Gyeonggi had 4 of its festivals selected in 2016, and 5 in 2017, as well as 8 in 2018, reflecting Gyeonggi’s festive spirit and local festival growth.

Below, categorized by level, are the 8 festivals selected as “Festivals for Culture and Travel”.
– (Representative) Gapyeong Jarasum International Jazz Festival
– (Excellent) Icheon Rice Cultural Festival
– (Great) Anseong Baudeogi Festival
– (Prospective) Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, Siheung Tidal Channel Festival, Yeoju Ogoknaru Festival
– (Subject for Care) Yeoncheon Paleolithic Festival, Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival

Governmental support for each level ranges from KRW 115 million to KRW 640 million.

Other candidate Gyeonggi festivals – including the Bucheon International Comic Festival, the Namyangju Fecundity Festival, the Gunpo Royal Azalea Blossom Festival, the Ansan Street Theater Festival, the Yangpeong Yongmunsan Mountain Season Vegetable Festival, the Hwaseong Marine Festival, and the Osan Doksansong Festival will receive support of KRW 70,000,000.

Gyeonggi will further pursue the development of its “soft power” by attracting tourists with its diverse contents. To this end, it will provide customized support that not only includes funding, but also PR, marketing, and professional consulting.
