Colorful Exterior Wall of the Museum Exhibiting Gang Ik-jung’s Work

Proudly hanging on the exterior wall of the museum is Gang Ik-jung’s work “Mixed with Wind and Connecting to the Earth.” This work depicts Hangeul, the Korean writing system. In Hangeul, the consonants and vowels combine to make characters and sounds. Connection, balance, and harmony are all encompassed in Hangeul.

The work consists of children’s favorite fairytales selected based on the results of a survey that was conducted. The work was produced by scanning Hangeul characters depicted by the artist and printing them, and by putting together hundreds of colored-glass fragments to make up a single Korean character. A mosaic of Hanguel characters was fixed onto an aluminum plate using glue, which was then installed on the wall using screw spikes and bolts.

Feel the abundance of Hangeul with Gang Ik-jung’s work featured on the wall of the museum.
