With the leaves turning bright red, the season has come in which our hearts yearn for travel. One of the most important aspects of traveling is, of course, food. If you are planning a fall outing, here are some recommendations for Gyeonggi farmhouse restaurants.

Farmhouse restaurants use locally grown produce and offer unique menus featuring fresh products. Not only is such fare healthy and tasty, there is also the added benefit of accommodations and farming experiences available at the restaurants.

To support local foods, the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services selected 10 restaurants within the province from 2009 to 2016 and provided support for their development of menus and planning of experiential programs related to regional foods as well as professional consulting for restaurant operation. These are 10 Gyeonggi farmhouse restaurants recommended for fall travel.
 

▲ Doldaengi Seokchongol is located in Hobeop-myeon of Icheon City. Its signature dish is byeotseom dumplings, a traditional Gyeonggi dish made to convey Lunar New Year wishes for a successful harvest. You can also taste gegeol radish, which are grown locally in the Icheon region. In addition, there are experiential programs like making your own obok byeotseom dumplings and injeolmi., Various tourist sites can be found in the surrounding areas like the Icheon Agricultural Theme Park, Sansuyu Village, Icheon Seolbong Park and more.
 

▲ Cheongsan Myeongga, located in Sinbuk-myeon of Pocheon City, offers various dishes featuring mushrooms from the 30-year-old mushroom farm, such as mushroom pottage and mushroom shabu-shabu. There are numerous tourist spots like Herb Island, Cheonggyesan Mountain, and Sanjeong Lake.
 

▲ Bongbawi Rock, located in Joan-myeon of Namyangju City, offers spicy fish stew with fresh organic vegetables, pork with Korean herbs, homemade soybean paste, chilled acorn jelly, and rice soup. Tourist spots around the area include Chungnyeongsan Recreational Forest, Dasan Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site, and KOFIC Namyangju Studios.

Here you can taste grilled lotus root patties and other lotus root dishes cooked by the Hwanghae Province Baecheon Jo family’s 33rd eldest-daughter-in-law. There are regional specialties like meat that is roasted for more 5 hours over oak and charcoal, homemade stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables with seafood and peanut sauce, and taro pancakes. The Tomb of King Sejong, Silleuksa Temple, Birth Home of Empress Myeongseong, Yeoju Premium Outlet and more are located around Tori Saem.
 

▲ Yangpyeong County’s Kwangiwon is located at the entrance to Yongmunsan Mountain and offers healthy dishes like Yongmunsan ginkgo nut appetizers, porridge, pancakes, rice soybean paste with wild vegetable salad, mulberry leaf dumplings, and yuzu-grilled seer fish. Visitors can enjoy the nearby Yongmunsan Tourist Area, Semiwon, Deulkkot Arboretum, Dumulmeori and more.
