Article 1. Autonomic Internal Control for Corruption Prevention (0722-1)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government began the implementation of a new corruption prevention tem, in addition to its well-recognized, effective anti-corruption policies.

These yellow stickers on the wallfloor in a Gyeonggi Provincial Government office building lead to the office of its ‘Corruption Prevention Taskforce’.
1) First Corruption Prevention Taskforce in Korea
This ‘Corruption Prevention Taskforce’, the first of its kind in a Korean local government,one of the factors for the provincial government’s ranking first incategories of the national public official evaluations earlier this year
2) Introduction of Autonomic Internal Control System
In order to maintain the high standard of integrity of its officials, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government also introduced a central government-initiated ‘Autonomic Internal Management System’.

4) Integrity e-System
Last year, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government introduced the ‘Integrity e-System’,achieved a great success, such as discovering 2.5 million Korean won worth of unaccounted taxable resources.

Finding employmentbecoming more difficult for youths every year in Korea. A lack of job site informationone of the contributing factors for the difficulty in finding possible employers.

1) Only Half of 560,000 University Graduates Found Jobs Last Year

560,000 youths graduated collegesuniversities in Korea last year. Only half of them have succeeded in landing a job. According to the university studentsgraduates, the number one factor for such difficulty in finding an employment -a lack of employment information.

3) Agreement between Bucheon UniversityGyeonggi Women’s Development Center
To help youths find employment, the ‘Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center’ signed an agreement with ‘Bucheon (부천) University’ to open an on-line employment information service, utilizing the data it has accumulated in its database for the past sixteen years for housewivesexpanding it for youths. The services will also include free vocational aptitude testson-line career coaching.
4) Cho Jeong-ah / Director of the Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center
“We are developing an on-line tem to help youths diagnose their aptitudestarget their applications more effectively.”
The initial tem will be the one customized for women youths, but it will be expanded later for both genders, through the linkage with other universities in the province.

Article 3. Biomedicine Research Class for High Schoolers (0724-1)

‘The Gyeonggi Institute of ScienceTechnology Promotion’ opened interesting science classes for high school students. This class named ‘Biomedicine Research Experiencing Class,’ aims to inspire youths with dreams of becoming scientists.

1) Biomedicine Research Class for Youths
After exploring the measuringtesting instruments, students attended a lecture about the dreamsvisions of scientists.
2) Ha In-hye / Junior Student of Yongho High School
“I learned many thing which I didn’t know about. It was a good learning experience.”
The lecture was then followeda serious experimentation class, in which student participated in the molecular analysis used in drug development.
3) Sung Yoon-je / Junior Student of Hwahong High School
“It was very interesting because we were able to use high technology equipment, which we don’t have opportunities to do at school.”
This 3-day experiencing program consists of lectures in science,a visit to a pharmaceutical research center, as well as biomedicine research experiencing classes. This institute has been operating the educational program for high school students in Gyeonggi Province for the past three years.
4) Hong Seong0hyun / ExchangeCooperation Team Leader, The Gyeonggi Institute of ScienceTechnology Promotion’

Article 4. ‘Integrated Health promotion Project’ (0722_3)

The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration launched the ‘Integrated Health Promotion Project’integrating seventeen health promotion programs to facilitate usage of the programresidents,began educating the related public officials on its operation.

1) ‘Integrated Health Promotion Project’
The health–related programs of Gyeonggi Province including those for dementia, asthmanon-smoking will be upgraded to a comprehensive care program with customized services to accommodate local demandscharacteristics. By integrating various programs into a comprehensive service projects, the Gyeonggi Provincial Administration will be able to utilize its health budget more efficientlymanage health promotion programs more effectively through the -orientated approach instead of a top-down policy orientated one.
2) Cho Gwang-oah / Director of Gyeonggi Province Health Policy Division
“We will develop health promotion programs in which residents can participate in their own health management to maximize the benefit of customized service.”
3) Education of CityCounty Officials on Integrated Projects
The Gyeonggi Provincial Administration provided the health officials of citycounty administrations a two-day education on the ‘Integrated Health Promotion Project’ for its effective operation. During this period, presentations were madethe project directorthe project consultant. There was also an open discussion among officialsspecialist about the details of health promotion plans,the methods of on-going project improvement.
4) Park Ji-yeong / Director of Hanam City Public Health Center
“This project will see more participationresidents in 2014. We will do our utmost to make the services of public health centers more readily available to the residents.”
This new comprehensive health project will raise the degree of satisfactionresidentsprovide health services with better results.

Article 5. Vocational Education for Seniors (0723_3)

‘The Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation’ granted support to a number of organizations for senior citizens, to help them operate vocational education programs.

1) Home-made Cosmetics Class
In this home-made cosmetics class, the members of the ‘Senior Clubs’Suwon (수원)Bundang (분당) are intent on listening to the instructor. The vocational education classes such as this one aim to prepare the attending seniors for their new jobs. The soap bars made in this class will actually be used for sales as well. The ‘Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation’ granted its support to 29 organizations for seniors, which operate vocational education programs for seniors – such as this one.
2) Noh Wan-ho / Director of Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation Senior Employment Support Center
“There are employment centerswelfare centers with good education programs operatedsenior clubssenior associations. Contact any of them for an application you want to join one.”
In addition to usual employment education programs, there are also classes in specialized fields such as financial accounting.

There are many interesting subjects of education such as donut makingtofu making. These vocational education programs, which will be available until September, will help seniors strengthen their competitiveness in their new profession.

Many parents may be concerned about how they should help their children spend summer vacation in a better way. It might be a good idea to advise them to join some of a variety of programs offeredpublic libraries

When summer vacation started, these young students visited local library to attend a program about future careers.

Students listen to the instructor about what career meanshow to decide one’s career. Then they take a career aptitude test. After the test, they have one-on-one in-depth consultation

4) 570 Programs Offered at 193 Public Libraries in Gyeonggi Province
There are 570 different summer vacation programs developedopened193 public libraries in Gyeonggi Province for students. There are a wide variety of programscareer consultation, to readingwriting, to book art,the history of muddy beach. Everyone can find programs of interest that were designed for both funeducation.

Article 7. Gyeonggi Orders Early Restoration of Flood Damage (0726-1)

The annual summer rainy spell in Koreaalmost over. However, it has left a number of damages in Gyeonggi Province, the biggest being those inflicted on farmlands. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government instructed local governments to concentrate on the early restoration of damaged sites.

1) Flood Damage Area in Yeoju Sandaeri
During the heavy rainfall, water flooded into the greenhousesdestroyed the vegetables there-within. Gone was the results of a year of farming effort,the farmerleft with nothing except his house which was also seriously damagedflood. There have been helping hands, but the situationfarcomplete restoration.
2) 1,464ha of Farmland DamagedJuly Rainfall
Compared to previous years, this year’s flood damage in farmland was particularly severe, devastating nearly fifteen hundred hectares.
3) Gyeonggi Province Instructed Urgent Restoration of Agricultural Facilities
The government of Gyeonggi Province issued a special order to citiescounties to mobilize resources to restore agricultural facilities to help farmers resume their farming as early as possible. The Gyeonggi Government also requested military basesother public agencies to provide laborequipment support for emergency restoration work. Those facilitiesagricultural plants that are beyond restoration will be demolished or cleared to prevent secondary damage.
