The Gyeonggi provincial administration announced that it will launch an anti-fraud consumer education program for seniors, to protect themever-growing commercial trickeries, aimed at unwary buyers.

The number of sales fraud against seniors increased to more than 200 cases in Gyeonggi Province last year

2) Anti-fraud Consumer Education for Seniors
This education program consists of the presentation of typical fraudulent sales cases, introduction to related lawsregulations,the instructions on how to avoid falling victims of sales trickeries. The goods offered with excessively large gifts must be treated with more suspicion. Don’t forget to ask for a receipt, or a sales document. According to the law, cancellation of purchase must be requested within fourteen days.

Article 2. Gyeonggi Announcer Academy Opens (0402-3)

The Gyeonggi provincial administration opened a free tematic announcer education program for amateurs. Our reporter examined the details.

This program was designed to provide the aspiring young announcers with an opportunity to experience the job at a professional level to prepare for their future career.

Twenty trainees were edfive times as many applicants for the first 4-week session of the Announcer Academy. They will receive practical education at the actual studio setting at the Gyeonggi Province Broadcasting Station.

“This education course will coverthe aspects of the announcer jobphonetic skills, speech skills to image making.”
The provincial government plans to operate the announcer education program up to the sixth session, generating 120 graduates.

Article 3. Fake Sesame Oil Producers Disclosed (0403-1)

Seven fake sesame oil producers were uncoveredthe Special Judicial Police of Gyeonggi Province. GNews-Plus reporter, Choi Chang-soon (최창순) examined the details.

In this supposedly sesame-oil-producing factory in Hwaseong (화성) there are a number of tanks. Some of them were found to contain corn oil or bean oil, instead of sesame oil.

“These are fake sesame oil products mixed with corn oilbean oil. Italmost impossible to visually distinguish themreal sesame oil.
This particular factory illegally made twenty million Korean wonthe sale of fake sesame oil. Another oil producer was found to have used only ten percent of actual sesame oil. What concerns morethat ita general practice in the edible oil producing industry.

The fake sesame oil products, which were sold through seven retail chains, amount to 600 million Korean won.

“Fake sesame oil products reached consumers through food wholesalers, retailersrestaurants. We uncovered seven producers (of fake sesame oil)will prosecute them.”
The price of a 1.8 liter-bottle of real sesame oil cannot be lower than 20,000 Korean won. If you find one at the price lower than that, itlikely that it’s a fake. The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police will continue its investigation to eradicate fake sesame oil products in the wholesaleretail markets.

Article 4. First Anniversary of Mobile Employment Service Bus (0401-2)

Article 7. Pine Forest in Namhansanseong (130404-3)

A thousand seedlings of pine tree were planted in Namhansanseong (남한산성), a historic mountain fortress currently on the list of applications for the registration of World Cultural Heritage.

This mountain fortress in the south of Seoul used to harbor a large pine forest in the early 20th Century, but the forest was exploited during Japanese occupation. Local communities have since been attempting reforestation with limited, sporadic efforts.

The little portion of the pine forest that remained could only survive because a group of local residents banned accessprocuring the areathe Japanese Government.

Thanks to the unselfish effortlocal residents, nearly half of the original forest now flourishes.
4) Inauguration of Pine Reforestation Coop (April 3rd)
On the 3rd of April, a group of local communities as well as officials of Gyeonggi Province gathered together to complete the reforestation of the fortress, exactly the same way their predecessors did;forming a cooperative.

“During Japanese occupation, 303 members formed a cooperativeplanted 24,000 pine trees. Half of them still survive. We simply took over the job our ancestors started.”
Every one works hard planting treesramming the ground looking forward to seeing a dense forest someday. Instead of the usual 3-year seedlings, they planted 7-year old ones to ensure the survival of the trees.
6) Preparation for the Designation as a World Heritage
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government also expects that reforestation will enhance the view of this cultural site to live up to the title of World Heritage.

“We initiated this project together with local residents, as part of the plan for the application for the cultural heritage registration for the entire Namhansanseong Provincial Park.”
The Pine Reforestation Co-op will plant at least one thousand well-grown pine seedlings a year, on an on-going basis until the reforestationcomplete.
