Senior officials of Gyeonggi Province visited issue sites in the provinceheld on-site meetings twenty-seven times this year. Such meetings reflect provincial policies that prioritize the improvement of the wellbeing of the peopleindustries of the province.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has been undeterredmajor challenges that hit the nation this year including free trade agreements, and, to alleviate difficulties facedresidents, has taken active measures such as the signing of an MOU for the promotion of agriculturallivestock product consumption.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government achieved remarkable success in boosting the provincial economy in 2012. The inducement of one of the largest investmentsSamsung Electronicsthe development of agricultural technologies for the revival of the local economy are also among the results of on-site communication.
Title 2. New Soju-Brewing Technology (1217-2)

Soju (소주), one of the most popular drinks in Korea,a traditional rice wine that requires maturing for a whole year before it reaches consumers. The Gyeonggi Province Agricultural ResearchExtension Services recently developed a new technology that enables brewers to produce mature soju (소주) in just a couple of months.

1) OO Brewery
Such a long maturation periodrequired for the elimination of undesirable odorsthe enhancement of a smooth taste. This new technology can achieve the same results in just two months, shortening the production processreducing production costs considerably.
2) Lee Seong-yong / Brewing Technician
“The traditional distilling method requires a maturation period of six months to one year. But soju produced using this technology requires much shorter maturation periodhas a better taste.”
The key to such a short maturation periodthe injection of a certain amount of air into the casket to accelerate chemical reactions. This new process also produces soju (소주) of better quality.

Brewers that adopt this technology will have the benefit of reduced production costsincreased competitiveness.

“(We will continue to develop this new brewing technology) which will set new standards for traditional drinksenable the production of high quality drinks.”
The beneficiary enterprises of the technology transfer will also take part in the promotion of rice consumption for the next three years. The first soju (소주) brand produced using this technologyexpected to hit store shelves in February next year.

Mongolian doctors attending the Hospital Management Academy of Gyeonggi Province spent seven days studying the medical tems of the province.

“I am very impressedthe medical equipment that I saw,I hope that we can introduce them to our hospital in Mongolia.”
This session with the Mongolian participants, which lasted seven days, was the first since the launch of the Hospital Management Academy. The purpose of this academyto help foreign medical professionals view the advanced medical temsequipment of Gyeonggi Provinceto promote them in overseas markets. Beginning2009, the overseas medical marketing projects of Gyeonggi Province have induced visitsmedical personnelseveral countries including KazakhstanMalawi.

“This academy will produce opportunities for the export of the hospital temsmedical equipment of Gyeonggi Province.”
Let us hope that the advanced medical tems of the province will find many overseas markets through the Hospital Management Academy.
Title 4. Visiting Health Management Services for Solitary Seniors (1220)

Visiting health management services provided for solitary seniorshealthcare managerslocal public health centers have proven effective in protecting healthalleviating depression.

1) Geomo-dong, Shiheung City
Eighty-two-year-old An Ok-boon (안옥분), who lives alone in this house, received a surprise visit. The visitors are Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, whoworking as a visiting nurse for the day,accompanying healthcare managers. The visitors check her blood pressureteach her how to perform physical exercises. The healthcare managersonly provide solitary seniors with regular health management in their homes, but also serve as chatting companionseven help them find new friends.
2) An Ok-boon / Solitary Senior
“I am sufferingarthritis but I am well taken care of. I receive medicinethe public health center once a week.”
During the next visit to another solitary senior living nearby, the visiting healthcare managers replace flooringinstall protective vinyl sheets over window frames. Thisbecause the home environmentas important for the wellbeing of seniors as their health. The visiting health management services for solitary seniors, which began as a trial project last year, received positive responses among solitary seniors,were expanded to a regular project this year. More than 3,000 seniors have since benefitedthis project, which has also had the effect of reducing medical costs incurredseniors through non-medical, preventative activities.
3) Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo
“We will expand the visiting medical services for solitary seniors.”
A total of 45 public health centers in Gyeonggi Province implemented visiting health management services this year. The provincial administration plans to promote these services on a national scalenext year.
Title 5. Native American Exhibition (1217-3)

An exhibition entitled “The LifeCulture of American Natives” opened on December 17th at the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum. This exhibition will provide children with an ideal opportunity to learn about American Nativesexperience their culture.

1) The LifeCulture of American Natives: EarthenwareBaskets of the Mimbres People / Gyeonggi Provincial Museum (December 17th, 2012 – February 24th, 2013)
At this exhibition, artifacts including 45 earthenware pieces of the Mimbres tribe – one of the American Native tribes – are on display.
2) EarthenwareBaskets of Mimbreses
Earthenware madethe Mimbres are characterizedtheir symbolic patterns that depict objects in their lives such as deerfish. Basketsbags of various shapessizes made of woven straw show the wisdom of American Natives. Once used in their daily lives, these artifacts tell us much about their lifehistory.
3) Shijn Mi-yeom / A Spectator
“I was fascinated to be able to actually see things usedNatives that I had only seen on TV.”
In addition to learning about the lives of American Natives through their artifacts, this exhibition also operates children programs such as Painting Mimbres EarthenwarePhoto Zone in which viewers take photographs wearing native attire.
4) Lee Jae-heon / Curator of the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum
“The exhibits include 45 earthenware pieces donatedthe Mimbres Foundation.”
Through these artifacts of the Mimbres tribe, who lived in the American southwest, viewers can catch a glimpse of the lives of ancient Americans. This exhibition of Mimbres relics, which were providedthe Mimbres Foundation, will run until February 24th next year.

The G-Business Inauguration Project of Gyeonggi Province has been providing opportunities to aspiring entrepreneurs who have ideastechnologies with business potential. This project, which includes customized supporteducation, has produced remarkable results.

Jeong Jae-hak (정재학)the founder of this semiconductor product manufacturing company. He started his business only four years ago, but his company marked annual sales of KRW 2.5 billion this year. Among a total of 739 participants who have been supportedthis project, 436 have so far successfully established new businessesd 1,007 jobs.
4) Expansion of Regional OperationProvision of Specialist Education
Such achievements are the results of active support providedthe project to those who had difficulties starting their businesses. The Gyeonggi provincial administration plans to expand this project on regional basiswill provide specialist education through regional business inauguration centers.
5) Han Seong-gi / Business Inauguration Support Team
“We plan to increase the business inauguration success rate through the regional provision of specialist educationthe sharing of success stories.”
As part of the business inauguration project, Gyeonggi Province plans to provide comprehensive support in stages through the operation of a business inauguration schooljoint business incubation program so as to more jobspromote the regional economy.
Title 7. Horticulture Education Program for Graduating High School Students (1220-3)

The Gyeonggi Agricultural ResearchExtension Services developed a horticultural education program for high school seniors who have endured stressful years preparing for the national college entrance examination.

At this high school in Hwaseong (화성) City, senior students who have been relieved of stress after taking the national examination for college entrance are now attending a horticulture class. Today’s missionto make lighting using flowers. The horticulture class was designed to help relieve the stress the high school seniors endured preparing for the national college entrance examination.
2) Gu Nam-gyeong / High School Senior
“When the national exam was over, I was drained. But I feel much better after taking these classes.”
Flowers are one of the best cures for emotional tension. Thisespecially true for youths who are emotionally sensitive. This program, which more than 300 students have attended to date,gaining popularity among students as well as schools.

4) Healing Effect on High School Seniors
This program was specifically designed for high school seniors who suffered tremendous tension with the aim of facilitating their emotional healing. It may also lead to the increased income of horticultural farms.

“We hope that this program will have a healing effect on students helping horticultural farms in their business efforts.”
The Gyeonggi Province Agricultural ResearchExtension Services plans to develop more emotional healing programs next year using a greater variety of subjects.
