Title 1. Gyeonggi Province Boosts Morale of Technical High School Students (1126-1)

Gyeonggi Province invited students of technical high schools to an event organized to boost their morale. Entitled ‘Healing Talk Concert’,marking its second occasion this year, this event aimed to guide the students in their career choiceshelp them plan for the future boosting self-confidence.

During this event, a number of lecturers including successful technical high school graduatesGyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo emphasized the importance of perseveranceassured the youths of success they maintain their hopesenthusiasm.

“When I first started working after graduatinghigh school, I volunteered to do things that university graduates couldn’t. It was a true ‘blue ocean’ strategy.”
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, who has been advocating a high school graduate employment culture, encouraged the students to maintain their hopesambitions.

After the Healing Talk Concert, such skepticism among technical high school students was greatly alleviatedthey regained confidence in their futures.

The Gyeonggi Youth Centeroperating the ‘Dream Knock Program’ for high school students who have just been freedthe pressure of the National College Entrance Exam.

Thisa senior class of a high school in Anseong (안성) City. These students have just recently taken the National College Entrance Exam, the prerequisite national examination for college entrance. Having been relievedthe years of pressure they endured preparing for the exam, the faces of the students are now much brighter.

They are feeling great more because they area drum class. Typically there have been few educational programs for the graduates-to-be after the National College Entrance Exam…
3) Visiting Dream Knock Program for High School Graduate-to-be
That is, until the Dream Knock Program was introducedthe Gyeonggi Youth Center. This program consists of a variety of classes that help the students identifymaximize individual capabilities.

Title 3. Gyeonggi Senior Officials Experience Public Transportation (1128-2)

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-sooa number of senior provincial officials spent a day commutingthe south to the north of the provincebusrailway to experience public transportation first hand.

1) 20% of Gyeonggi Commuters Spend More Than 1 Hour a Day on Public Transport
According to national statistics, one out of every five commuters in Gyeonggi Province spends more than one hour every day using public transportation.
2) Public Transportation Experience for Gyeonggi Officials (November 27th)
To experience public transportationits problems first hand, senior provincial officials ledGovernor Kim Moon-soo embarked on a 10-hour commuteSuwon (수원) Station to the northernof the province.
3) GTX More Urgently Needed in Northern Gyeonggi
Gyeonggi officials unanimously agreed that GTX servicemore urgently required in the northern part of the province since theremuch less public transportation infrastructure in that region.
4) Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo
“After experiencing public transportation for one day, I can understand the difficulties our residents face every day. It only makes us more determined to construct GTX as early as possible.”
Construction of GTX received a green light this past April when the Korean central government announced its final national transportation network plan which included GTX lines. However, construction workbeing hindered due to the delay of the preliminary feasibility studythe Korean Ministry of StrategyFinance, which may hamper the entire GTX project. The Gyeonggi Provincial Governmentworking closely with the ministry toGTX construction work as soon as possible.

Title 4. G-Business Launch Festival (1126-2)

Gyeonggi Province organized a business festival in which the results of provincial support for business inauguration could be viewed at a glance.

1) G-Business Launch Festival / Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center (November 23rd)
One corner of this festival sitean exhibition of agricultural tools manufactureda company supportedthe provincial government. This farming device integrates four different tools, thereby simplifying usage.

This new pipe cleaning tem, consisting of an automatic controla special pipe joint, can clean the interior of a boiler without the disassembly of pipesgauges. The industrial version of this tem has already been commercializedis currently being used.

“This tem simplifies the cleaning of household pipes. It saves a lot of timemoney when cleaning.”
There are more than a hundred products displayed at this festival. Each one of them was once a mere idea, but their commercialization was realized thanks to supportGyeonggi Province.

“I was impressedhow such small ideas can be developed into products that benefit our lives.”
4) [INTERVIEW] Kang Seong-deok / Business Launch Support Team Leader of Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center
“We have so far provided support to 723 individuals. Of those, 429 succeeded in opening their businesses, creating a total of 992 jobs.”
Gyeonggi Province expects that there will be an increasing number of individuals seeking to establish new businesses,will continue to provide them with a variety of support.
Title 5. Free Childcare for 3-5 Year Olds in Korea2013 (1127-2)

The Korean government began implementation of free childcare services for 5 year oldsMarch this year. Entitled ‘Nuri (누리) Course’, this free childcare program will be extended to children 3 to 5 years of ageearly next year. Under this program,children 3 to 5 years of age will receive childcare services free of charge at public childcare facilities.

Thisa private childcare center in Suwon (수원) City. This facility charges KRW 250,000 for each child whoregistered in the Nuri (누리) Course.

“We are charging KRW 250,000 per child. Unlike public childcare houses, parents pay their portion at private facilities.”
Childcare serviceprovided free of charge only at public childcare facilities.
3) Gyeonggi Province to Provide Free Nuri Course at All Childcare Facilities
However, for the first time in Korea, Gyeonggi Province plans to provide free Nuri (누리) Course services to children of 3 to 5 years of ageonly at public facilities but also at private facilities.

“We in Gyeonggi Province believe that free childcare services should be provided unconditionally. We have already obtained provincial council approval,are ready to provide free Nuri Course servicesnext year.”
From next year,parents in Gyeonggi Province with children in the Nuri (누리) Course will be able to use free childcare services even at private childcare facilities. There are 134,000 children at ages appropriate for the Nuri (누리) Course in Gyeonggi Province. The province plans to set aside KRW 42 billion in next year’s budget for the free Nuri (누리) Course childcare services.

Gyeonggi Province organized a drum contest, the Dudung (두둥) Festival, for people with disabilities.

Powerful drum beats fill the performance hallthe audience applauds enthusiastically. One can hardly tell that the performers are those with disabilities.

“The performances were inspiring. These individuals with limited capabilities d such beautiful sounds that they helped me regain my confidence.”
Some of the performers sufferserious autismmore than 60% have serious disabilities. However, they are true heroes who overcame their difficultiesperfected their performances.
